History
Farmington is a city in Dakota County and is part of the Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area. Farmington was one of the first communities in the United States to offer free rural mail delivery in 1897. Throughout the twentieth century, Farmington continued to grow, and in 1972 the city celebrated its centennial.
The city, named for Farmington, New York, is one of Dakota County’s oldest communities and was on the map before Minnesota became a state.
